Generative AI Special | Fraunhofer FIT launches Generative AI Lab

The lab investigates, designs and develops intelligent systems based on generative AI in order to help exploit their full potential for companies and society. Our focus is on understanding the further evolution and application of large language models (LLMs). The institute is investing a total of one million euros in internal research activities to accelerate the development of ready-to-use solutions for companies.

 

New training program Blockchain & Web3

Fraunhofer FIT provides insights into these new technologies and shows how companies can exploit their potential. It includes both one-day courses for beginners and a comprehensive certificate course to become a blockchain expert. Various learning formats are combined, including interactive workshops, e-learning modules and face-to-face events.

 

5G Troisdorf is a flagship project of the Ministry for Digital and Transport

In July 2023, the ministry invited the 5G Troisdorf IndustrieStadtpark project to present results at its 4th Dialogue on Immersive Technologies in Berlin. As the project partner responsible for technology development, Fraunhofer FIT made the presentation to Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, and around 100 other experts.

 

Culture data room: Caspar David Friedrich web portal

To mark the 250th anniversary of Friedrich's birth, the web portal www.cdfriedrich.de was launched in November 2023. It brings together the most important paintings and drawings by the artist from the collections of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. It is a part of the federal government's Datenraum Kultur digital project.

 

Fraunhofer FIT opens doors for Far East cooperation

On October 31, Fraunhofer FIT opened the Satellite Office, a place of cooperation and exchange between Germany and Japan. Fraunhofer FIT welcomed Shuichi Abe, Governor of Nagano Prefecture, to the Birlinghoven campus for this special event. The focus was the signature of a joint proclamation between Fraunhofer FIT and Nagano. 

 

Web3 Convention in the Blockchain Reallabor

On September 2023, the Blockchain Reallabor of Fraunhofer FIT hosted the annual Web3 Convention in Hürth. Numerous presentations and workshops dealt with central topics of the future of the internet. Deutsche Telekom presented its Web3 strategy, the transition to Society 5.0 was discussed from an international perspective and the Ethereum Foundation presented its future plans for greater sustainability through lower energy consumption.

 

Digital identities for machines can drive the energy transition

Researchers from the University of Bayreuth and Fraunhofer FIT have investigated the possible applications of self-sovereign digital identities (SSI) in the energy system for the transmission system operator Elia Group. According to the study, machine identities for production and consumption systems as well as personal or organizational identities simplify their direct participation in the energy system.

 

Obituary for Professor Matthias Jarke

Fraunhofer FIT mourns the loss of its long-time institute director Prof. Dr. rer.pol. Matthias Jarke, who left us far too early on March 21, 2024 at the age of 71. With his passing, we have lost an outstanding leader who played a key role in shaping the development of our institute and applied computer science research in Germany for over two decades.
